So if you haven't kept up, the Spanish pokemon Champion, Rubén Puig Lecegui was stripped of his title after one of his teammates threw human feces in a hotel hallway. Dave Schwimmer, the Pokemon Organized Play director, issued a statement on the issue:

The Pokémon Company International expects its players to maintain high standards of behaviour conducive to the family-friendly environment that we foster. The Pokémon Company International conducts full investigations into any matters where we believe that a player has failed to maintain these standards, and take appropriate action when necessary. In this case, we have found that unacceptable behaviour did take place, and have taken the appropriate steps in response.

Ignoring how retarded it is even if Puig were to have thrown the feces himself, had the cops called on him, and then kicked out publicly on television (which didn't happen, stay with me here), none of that has anything to do with Pokemon or the tournament. But it would seem that Puig made a response to this ham-canned Nintendo statement:

The events described by different media all over the Internet are in no way true. While one of us may have been involved in an isolated case of vandalism at the hotel where we stayed, this has nothing at all to do with Pokémon, the tournament or the facilities where the tournament took place. The only consequence of his acts was an economic sanction which was paid immediately. We can't tolerate these attempts at discrediting the Spanish players (some of the most skilled players in Europe) , as our behaviour during the tournament was not unacceptable in any way.
Furthermore he claims he had nothing to do with the incident. So it looks like all we have is a fuzzy incident that took place with no exact witnesses who can pinpoint who did what, Nintendo claiming the sky is falling, and Puig claiming he personally did not have anything to do with it. Looks like Nintendo didn't research very far. But apparently they don't have to. A bit more reading into the tournament rules [pdf] and you can see this:

  • Players and spectators are expected to demonstrate proper sportsmanship over the course of the event.
  • A player may be disqualified from the event based on actions taken by friends or relatives who disrupt the operation of the tournament.
So there you have it, kids. You can be disqualified from the tournament if your dad shows up drunk and yells too loudly or uncle touchy makes a surprise appearance and you have an emotional breakdown. Or: apparently if someone you claim as a friend throws feces in a hotel hallway, ever. Even after the tournament. Keep Nintendo's very Japanese "shamfur dispray" policy in mind if you ever plan to attend an event.
